With ERP sales flattening, manufacturers need commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software solutions that integrate front- and back-end operations.
Lake Forest, Calif., September 7, 1999 -- To meet the demand of global manufacturing companies for COTS software that provides visibility and integration to the shop floor with applications throughout the supply chain, iBASEt (Information Based Technology) has developed a shrink-wrapped version of its Solumina paperless manufacturing execution system (pMES) software. This pMES is highly flexible, easy-to-use and upgrade, and can be integrated to third-party applications across the enterprise.
"To derive the maximum return on their investment our customers need to implement a shop floor solution as promptly as possible," says Phil Davis, President and COO of iBASEt, "as well as integrate it with several diverse software applications such as ERP/MRP, Supply Chain, and Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS). Solumina's architecture makes it relatively simple to handle these interfaces. And, one of iBASEt's most recent COTS implementations was completed in approximately three months. That's mostly unheard of in this industry -- especially on the shop floor.
"In the past, ERP systems have failed to address the specific requirements of the shop floor. But manufacturers know that next to inventory, paper is probably the biggest issue to resolve to improve productivity. Industry analysts report a significant increase in the number of companies investigating paperless shop floor solutions. iBASEt has been solving this exact problem for over 7 years now, and as a result, improving productivity and significantly reducing costs for our customers."
Solumina is an integrated manufacturing software system for discrete, complex engineer-to-order and make-to-order organizations in industries such as aerospace and defense, industrial equipment, industrial electronics, metal fabrication and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). Solumina includes process planning, electronics work instructions delivery, MRO, quality assurance, a CAD viewer, and a graphical dispatch manager. These powerful modules eliminate one of the shop floor's most time-consuming and costly limitations -- paper. Solumina has been referred to as the "next industrial revolution."
iBASEt, founded in 1986 as TSI, is a leading provider of high-tech software solutions and services. iBASEt pioneered the first image-based work instruction system in the complex assembly, aerospace and defense, and MRO markets. Users report by making the shop floor paperless, iBASEt's Solumina pMES solution has significantly improved productivity, increased throughput, and provided cost savings in the millions of dollars per year.
