SF2K to Deploy Manufacturing Execution for Boeing

"Seamless" shop floor system will link fabrication facilities with engineering designers and procurement records at Boeing Aerospace & Defense

Lake Forest, Calif., November 16, 1998 – The SF2K division of TSI, a leading provider of integrated manufacturing execution systems (MES), today announced beginning a new implementation of a multi-year agreement with The Boeing Company.  The corporate purchase agreement, signed by the two firms earlier this year, provides for the acquisition of SF2K's Shopfloor 2000 software, integration services, and training support for Boeing's diverse manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance "factory floor" operations.

Under the first phase of the agreement, SF2K will assign certain software licenses for its Shopfloor 2000 system; supply manufacturing systems development services including consulting, training, and maintenance; and assist with the master plan for enterprise resource planning (ERP) to be introduced at Boeing facilities in Anaheim, California as well as in Texas and Ohio.   Shopfloor 2000 software from SF2K is currently deployed at the Boeing Airlift and Tanker Group in Long Beach, California, and at other Boeing sites in Macon, Georgia, and Mesa, Arizona.

"Our leadership in MES for complex manufacturing is demonstrated by the selection of SF2K by Boeing North American," said Phil Davis, SF2K President.  "Shopfloor 2000 captures information about critical production techniques, and embeds this knowledge into multimedia windows, to provide real-time work instructions on the shop floor.  The integration of parts information, quality assurance checks, blueprints, and other production data, into a unified system with an easy-to-use Windows interface gives aerospace assembly workers the same access to personal computer technology in use throughout the business world," Mr. Davis noted.

The Shopfloor 2000 system selected for this new installation has successfully eliminated over 14,000 paper documents in the production of the C-17 cargo airfleet at Boeing--winning an innovation award from the American Electronics Association, as well as the Boeing Silver Eagle award. The goal of the new manufacturing system, termed "Vision 2000" by Boeing, is to shorten work cycles, improve process and parts tracking, and deliver higher-quality, more affordable aircraft and space vehicles across all aerospace programs.

TSI, founded in 1986, is a leading provider of high-tech software solutions and services.  TSI's SF2K division has pioneered the first image-based work instruction delivery system in the complex assembly, FAB and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) markets today.  TSI is one of the fastest growing technology companies and a multi-year honoree in the regional and national Technology Fast 50 program sponsored by Deloitte & Touche LLP as well as ranked #68 on INC. magazine's 1998 500 list.
