Lake Forest, Calif., March 23, 1999 – To meet Orange County needs for on-going education in manufacturing execution systems within the aerospace & defense (A&D) industry, University of California, Irvine (UCI) is offering a new course, Manufacturing Systems and Technology, to train current and future end users on complex manufacturing processes. This course, the first of its kind, introduces students to manufacturing operations using Solumina, a paperless manufacturing execution system (pMES) developed by iBASEt. Students work firsthand with the software, providing knowledge that is directly transferable onto the shop floor.
Rogelio Rodriguez, Assistant Director of Engineering at UCI extension, said of the partnership, "Manufacturing execution systems are the next wave of the information technology revolution. Using iBASEt's proven pMES software we are able to fulfill our commitment to offer the highest professional training for manufacturers. This type of education prepares students for success in today's marketplace using state-of-the-art software for complex manufacturing problems."
Phil Davis, President and Chief Operating Officer of iBASEt said, "iBASEt not only sells leading-edge software solutions, but is also committed to helping institutions such as UCI train people who are newly entering the work force as well as returning adult participants. We recognize and are responding to the need to educate people of all levels in today's manufacturing environment as well as what will be required for manufacturing operations of the future."
The program includes a comprehensive review of the essential MES components by studying the overall manufacturing system environment. Students have the ability to use the work instructions delivery module, gaining valuable knowledge of processes that happen on the shop floor. Classes will run April 14 through June 16 on Wednesdays from 7-10pm.
The new manufacturing systems and technology course is part of concentrated focus on engineering and information technologies within UCI Extension. About 110 to 120 courses are offered on campus each quarter in areas beneficial to working professionals in related technical fields – from communications and network engineering to facilities design and management. Another 25 to 30 classes are offered per quarter at company sites.
iBASEt, founded in 1986, is a leading provider of high-tech software solutions and services. iBASEt has pioneered the first image-based work instruction system in the complex assembly, aerospace and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) markets today. By making the shop floor paperless, users report that iBASEt' pMES solution has significantly improved productivity, increased throughput, and provided cost savings in the millions of dollars per year.
