With orders for 320 planes worth $33.5 billion, Airbus said it had outsold Boeing by a margin of more than two to one at the world’s biggest aviation jamboree, held at Le Bourget. However, Boeing continues to outsell Airbus in the new market for mid-size aircraft and many industry analysts expect it to wrest leadership of global sales from Airbus in 2005. Airshow orders reported by the two arch-rivals added up to a record $48.7 billion, according to company data and Reuters calculations based on available list prices, including $15.2 billion for Boeing but excluding a 40-plane Airbus order worth about $2.4 billion from an unidentified airline.

Record Levels at Paris Air Show …

According to Louis Le Portz, Commissaire Général of the Show, “the 2005 Paris Air Show has benefited on two fronts, both from a rise in the number of exhibitors to record levels and the presence of almost twenty new aircraft, including the Airbus A380, Dassault Aviation’s Falcon 7X and UCAV Neuron, the Boeing 777-200LR, Gulfstream’s G550, Embraer’s EMB 195 and Aermacchi’s M346, all of which made their first public appearance at the Show. Both these factors contributed to the record number of visitors this year. Cooperation with police and emergency services was also key to the smooth running of the event and allowed us to welcome up to 120,000 visitors in a single day, beating all previous Paris Air Show records.” With an increase in total visitor numbers of almost 41% compared to 2003, and 11% compared to 2001, this year’s Show confirms the interest that both the world of aerospace and the general public have in this biennial event.

Paris Air Show Deals Mark Reviving Aerospace Industry …

A slew of jet orders that rolled out at the Paris Air Show this week from airlines in Asia, the Mideast and India brought smiles to the aerospace executives presiding over the industry’s strongest year since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. ‘People see that there is demand for aircraft globally, and that will drive Airbus, Boeing and their suppliers.’
